For more than 20 years I have studied New Orleans through the lens of my camera. During that time, I have learned to appreciate her nuances, forgive her faults, relish the beauty of her architecture, savor the uniqueness of her culinary and musical heritage. With each click of the camera I treasure this place a little more. These are my thoughts in words and pictures.

Henry Butler: New Orleans Jazz Pianist

jazz, New Orleans musician, New Orleans photographer, piano
The great thing about working as a photographer in New Orleans is that you get to photograph and meet some amazing musicians, and Henry Butler was one of them. Butler was blinded by glaucoma as an infant. He began his musical training at the Louisiana State School for the Blind, learning various instruments and eventually focusing on singing and piano. He also pursued photography and exhibited his work in galleries in New Orleans and beyond. His methods and photos were featured in an HBO2 documentary, “Dark Light: The Art of Blind Photographers.” Butler died of cancer in New York City on July 2, 2018 at the age of 68. RIP Henry.
